Blood flow restriction is a technique used to strengthen a muscle with less load. During treatment, the physical therapist restricts blood flow to a limb, combined with low-load lifting to elicit metabolic stress. This results in increased strength and muscle growth. This treatment is most often used in physical therapy for post-operative patients who have weight bearing or lifting restrictions due to their protocol, in order to accelerate the post-operative strengthening process.

The physical therapists are very caring and understanding. They will help you as much as they can. When I started there back in March of 2025 I was barely walking with crutches now in August of 2025 I’m discharged and able to walk and do other activities with little to no pain.
