Hand injuries make everyday tasks such as bathing and eating nearly impossible. At Phoenix, we provide physical therapists who are hand therapy specialists and who can provide hand rehabilitation intervention that not only enables the hand to function well, but also prevents further injury.
Hand physical therapy can treat:
- Fractures of the hand or arm
- Lacerations and amputations
- Burns
- Surgical repair of tendons and nerves
- Conditions such as tendonitis, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, and carpal tunnel syndrome
While physical therapists are schooled and trained in hand therapy, someone possessing an advanced certification in hand and upper extremity is identified as a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT). CHTs are specifically trained to evaluate and treat conditions affecting the upper extremity and hands through 3 years experience, 4,000 hours of upper extremity treatment and completion of an exam.

I lived in horrible pain from a frozen shoulder for a few months before being referred to physical therapy in hopes of avoiding surgery. I can’t thank a Mark and Danny enough for their patience, kindness, compassion, encouragement and expertise. Without them, I would NEVER have been successful persevering through over six months of therapy (especially in the early days when I cried in about one of every two or three sessions). The fact that they cared so much about me as a patient and as a person made me want to work harder and never give up.
Because of therapy, with Mark and Danny, I have my life back. I don’t live in pain. I can do daily activities, exercise, and play sports. I can’t thank them enough for the difference they have made in my life.
