Robert Calhoun, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT, ATC, LAT

Clinic Director, Physical Therapist

Robert “Bobby” Calhoun’s treatment philosophy centers on creating a comprehensive, patient-centered model of care where Physical Therapy serves as a true one-stop destination for healthcare excellence. His approach integrates the best principles of Physical Therapy, Orthopedic Manual Therapy, Sports Medicine, Athletic Training, and Strength & Conditioning to deliver the highest level of care and outcomes for his patients.

Bobby’s clinical focus is the expert evaluation and treatment of orthopedic and neuromuscular conditions throughout the entire kinetic chain—from the upper cervical spine and TMJ to the foot and ankle. His mission is to develop a team of highly trained clinicians who continually elevate the standard of care, building a clinic that not only achieves exceptional outcomes but also serves as a trusted resource for the community. His long-term vision is to make Phoenix synonymous with the most optimal and comprehensive musculoskeletal care.

Bobby joined the Phoenix team in June 2022 as the Clinical Director of the Charlotte clinic. He is a highly trained orthopedic manual physical therapist and Certified Athletic Trainer who has earned the profession’s highest post-graduate distinction as a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (FAAOMPT)—an honor held by fewer than 2% of physical therapists.

He has extensive experience treating a wide spectrum of orthopedic and sports-related conditions and specializes in both non-operative and post-operative musculoskeletal rehabilitation. His clinical expertise spans injuries of the shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, ankle, spine, and TMJ. Bobby integrates advanced manual therapy techniques into treatment, including spinal and extremity manipulation, while also utilizing evidence-based approaches such as Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training, dry needling, and electro-dry needling.

Beyond patient care, Bobby is deeply committed to mentorship and professional development. He has served as a mentor to physical therapy students, residents, and fellows, and values the process of educating both clinicians and patients to optimize outcomes and advance the profession.

Prior to joining Phoenix, Bobby served as a Sports Medicine Director and provided on-field and clinical athletic training coverage for Division I athletes as well as the San Francisco Olympic Club Rugby team.

Outside the clinic, Bobby enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter, and their two dogs. He is a competitive powerlifter and lifelong sports enthusiast who previously competed as a multi-sport athlete. In his free time, he enjoys reading, hiking, fishing, and exploring all that the Charlotte area has to offer with his family.
